Most of the Leander openings you can walk into this fall are in shopping centers on South Brook Drive and Hero Way. Northline sits next to the rail station and is planned as Leander's town square. Its restaurants are still listed on permit filings, with completion estimates running from this fall into 2028. So for the next year or so, Leander's new places will keep opening in a few separate pockets around town, and they'll fill in long before Northline gets its first busy evening.
Atomic Wings opened first. It serves halal-friendly wings and fried chicken at 144 South Brook Drive, Suite 130, and opened July 15, according to a Community Impact roundup of Leander-area openings.
A month later, Limegreen Southeast Asian Grill opened across the way at 145 South Brook Drive, Suite 120, in Southbrook Station. It had a soft opening Aug. 13 and an official opening Aug. 21. Owners Ngoc Phan and Annie Pham draw on their Vietnamese heritage. You build your own banh mi or bowl on coconut rice or vermicelli, then pick a protein: lemongrass pork, grilled steak, five-spice chicken or crispy tofu. Wings, fried spring rolls and Thai tea are on the menu too, and the restaurant caters. This is Limegreen's second location. The first is in central Austin near the University of Texas campus.
Pham explained the move to Community Impact: "Leander is where a lot of our guests already live. It's the kind of community we built this restaurant for—families, teachers, coaches and people who want something fresh on a weeknight but don't have an hour to spend on it."
An Austin restaurant opening its second kitchen on a Leander side street, and saying it came here because its customers live here, tells you something. The customers came first, and the restaurants followed them to the shopping centers closest to home.
Hero Way has a different feel: coffee now, and a game table on the way.
Black Rock Coffee Bar opened Monday, Sept. 28, at 1060 Hero Way, Building 1, Suite 110, according to the company's grand opening announcement. The release calls it the chain's 13th Austin-area location. This store took a while to arrive. Back in February 2025, Community Impact reported a Black Rock planned for U.S. 183 and Hero Way and expected it to open in early 2025.
Down the road, Wren's Landing plans to open a board game cafe and bar at 1561 Hero Way, Suite 120, in December. Co-founders Mindy and Charles Carlson named it after Wren's Cafe, where they had their first date in 1996. Charles Carlson described the idea to Community Impact: "We're trying to open up a community space for people to unplug and connect over something besides just drinking." Splendor, Dixit and Salem 1692 are among the games the couple lists on the cafe's website.
Next spring, South Bagdad Road adds another stop. Lemberg Roastery & Bakery, a Ukrainian-inspired cafe and bakery with a drive-through, plans to open in early 2027 at 1900 S. Bagdad Road, Suites 101-102, Community Impact reported on Oct. 12.
Northline is set right beside CapMetro's Leander Station, the last stop on the Red Line, and close to the Leander campus of Austin Community College. In a KXAN report from late September, the developers describe it as Leander's town square. The plan includes civic spaces, retail anchored by Sprouts Farmers Market, apartments, townhomes, offices and healthcare centers. Northline's own website names the Northline Circle Civic Space and its first public art installation, "Cascade."
The restaurant timeline is clearest when you line up the filings. Most of these dates are construction-completion estimates from project filings. A business usually opens some time after construction wraps, and estimates tend to move.
| Business | Location | What's been reported |
|---|---|---|
| Piada Italian Street Food | 516 E. San Gabriel Pkwy., Ste. 110 | Construction projected to finish September 2026; Piada will announce its own opening details |
| Tacodeli | 408 E. San Gabriel Pkwy., Ste. 110 | Completion anticipated November 2026 |
| 7 Brew Coffee, second Leander location | 10281 183A Toll frontage road | Construction projected to finish in November; opening TBD |
| Ike's Love & Sandwiches | 10209 183A Toll frontage road, Ste. 130 | Construction completion estimated Dec. 30 |
| America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses | 408 E. San Gabriel Pkwy. | Construction completion estimated March 2027 |
| Aubergine Kitchen | 508 E. San Gabriel Pkwy., Ste. 110 | Opening spring 2027 |
| Gringo's Mexican Kitchen | 10101 183A Toll frontage road | Construction completion estimated February 2028 |
The City of Leander's July post on Piada expected construction to run from July to September and said opening details would come from the business. Aubergine Kitchen's Northline location will be its first in Texas, Community Impact reported. Expect healthy meals, bowls, salads, melts and smoothies.
The biggest piece is even further off. KXAN reports a planned 30,000-square-foot international marketplace at Northline. Developers mentioned possibilities like Japanese sushi, dumplings, Korean barbecue and Korean fried chicken, and quick-serve Chinese spots. Construction is expected to start in 2027, with businesses opening in 2028.
Put the table next to the Hero Way and South Brook openings and the pattern holds. The restaurants that wanted to be in Leander in 2026 chose spaces they could open in 2026. Northline's restaurants will arrive a few at a time over the next three years, with Piada, Tacodeli and 7 Brew carrying the earliest construction estimates.
Northline's plaza is still on paper, so this season's big gatherings are happening where they always have: city parks, the library and Old Town. These dates fall after this post goes up, and all come from the City of Leander calendar and the Leander Chamber of Commerce.
While you're in Old Town for the festival, stop by Lioness Books at 208 N. Gabriel St. The bookstore opened April 25 after a storage fire pushed back its debut, Community Impact reported. It's an easy stop between the 1 p.m. parade and the evening tree lighting.
A full Leander Saturday this season might be coffee on Hero Way, lunch on South Brook Drive and an evening at a city event. Wren's Landing should add a December game night to that list. Northline will keep adding its own stops through 2028, with Tacodeli and 7 Brew both carrying November construction estimates.
I keep a running list of what's opening across Leander and the rest of Greater Austin because the details of daily life matter to the families I work with. If you've found a new favorite on Hero Way, or you're wondering how Northline's long timeline fits into your own plans for the next few years, I'd love to hear about it.
